Recreation in our National Forests, Parks and Public Lands
Preserving and restoring natural quiet for all to enjoy

Tens of millions of Americans visit public lands and waters every year to experience scenic wonders, learn about our rich cultural heritage, and be a part of nature. We camp, hike, fish, hunt, and birdwatch, enjoying the fresh air, peace and quiet, and serenity that makes the outdoors so special.

Over the past few decades, though, with the advent of off-road vehicle technologies, we have learned that we cannot take these memorable outdoor experiences for granted.  Dirt bikes, rock crawling jeeps, snowmobiles, and other off-road vehicles, enabled with ever-changing technologies, are pushing further and further into the backcountry causing serious, widespread disturbances to land, water, and wildlife and other visitors.

Americans understand that there must be a balance between various users of public lands and waters so as not to have one user group preclude all others from enjoying public lands. Americans also understand that activities on our public lands must be sustainable, and not overwhelm the land's ability to absorb impacts.

Because of this, citizens nationwide support common-sense limits on off-road vehicles to protect land, water, and wildlife for all to enjoy. Join the movement to strike a balanced, sustainable recreation policy on public lands. Explore this site to learn more about what you can do to protect the places you cherish.
