Local West Virginian Wilderness supporters are highlighted in a new print ad campaign sponsored by the West Virginia Wilderness Coalition and created by the Campaign for America’s Wilderness. The ads were designed to raise awareness about West Virginia’s beautiful, wild public lands and the diverse group of people who support protecting these lands.
These ads come on the heels of a public comment period for the Monongahela National Forest’s new management plan, where more than 13,000 comments were submitted (a record for an Eastern Forest) and as the Forest Service is working towards a final decision on the plan.
Eighteen full page ads will run in newspapers across the state featuring Ed Kachmarek, a local hunter, Chip Chase, owner and operator of a cross country ski touring center, and Carol Warren, a leader in the West Virginia faith community. Members of the West Virginia Wilderness Coalition hope that the ads will illustrate the diverse pool of support for protecting the Monongahela National Forest and will help to encourage the delegation to step forward and introduce Wilderness legislation for the forest’s remaining wild areas.
